¡Hemos llegado! (We've arrived!)

A Lyft ride to Newark, an uneventful but long flight, several weeks of Duolingo Spanish and probably too much clothing, we finally arrived in Guatemala City on July 12, at about 9:30 at night.  Tired and worn out, we just about fell into our hotel room.

Elyse waiting in Newark, and creating this blog

We didn't plan to see much in Guatemala City, it is just a stop on the way to Antigua.  But we did walk around a little bit and found a wonderful bakery café for breakfast.

Finally, a drive out of the very noisy and smelly city and up and over some mountains and we made it to Antigua and our beautiful apartment. We have a lovely space, large kitchen/living room/dining space; three bedrooms; and a beautiful private patio with lots of blooming flowers.  I promise more pictures to come.  We've unpacked, dealt with some plumbing issues.  Saw our friend Josh who also happens to be here now, and wandered around this old colonial city for a bit. Tomorrow, we go to school!

We will write more about Antigua, the Mayan culture, our garden space, etc in the days to come.  We are happy to be here and enjoying settling in.  Here are a few requisite photos for the day:

At the famous arch, Antigua's most photographed site.

The church next door,  It's southern wall (photo right) is against our apartment complex.

Wisdom on the walls:
The secret to human success is human effort and divine power.

Where there is no fat, there is no beauty!

Buenas noches!  Hasta Manana!
